We Have a Winner

In case you missed the memo, Scour is the big winner of the mechanics poll, with an astounding 38% of the vote. Congratulations, Scour. Here's what it does:

Scour X (When you play this card, reveal the top X cards of your library. You may chose one of these cards that shares a card type with this card and put it into your hand. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in any order.)

So scour is essentially a specialized form of card drawing. One important feature - it resolves separately from the spell and it resolves first. If the spell is countered, you still get to scour.

Scour is a triggered ability.

Thank you for voting, and please cast your vote in the next mechanic poll.

  1. Scour's like a combination of Scrye and Ripple, but is slightly worse than Scrye and significantly better than Ripple. Bravo, Grell. I'm going to keep my vote on Doublethink this time, no matter how much of a stalemate appears.

  2. How do you come up with your mechanic names and what they do? I'm tempted to go through a dictionary and just go from there.

  3. http://thesaurus.reference.com/ is a big help for both mechanic names and card names, but if you rely on it too much you end up with a set full of cards with names like Capricious Condottiere. As far as what the mechanics actually go, most of mine are just a variation on something that's already been done. Weird cards from the Magic archives are the best places to get ideas for mechanics.
